Manzano wins and is near getting the European Championship

The 4th (last but one) round of the European Championship has been held this Sunday in La Pobla de Segur, with a hot and sunny weather.

Josep Manzano started as the leader and clear favorite, but it remained to see if this pressure would have an effect on his results, specially in a championship in which any small error is decisive in the classification. Instead of it, Manzi, aided this time by Pep Sala, was all the time calm, concentrated, and sure of his possibilities.

Even riding the 2002 bike, to which he has not had time to adapt, he made a round without failures, surpassing his competitors by an ample margin.

The first lap of Manzano was excellent, with just 2 points in the 15 sections, distancing already Sam Connors, who penalized 6 points, same as Jordi Garcia. Italian Fabio Lenzi and Czech Pavel Balas followed with 8 points.

The second lap decided the podium. Manzi won again, but this time with 4 points, same as Ben Hemingway, who would obtain the second place. Jose Maria Sáez, with 5 points in this lap, would complete the podium. Sam Connors, added 8 points, and went down to 4th place.

With this new victory, third in the four rounds held until now, Manzano takes a giant step to win the title, since the 15-point advantage over Connors, means that he only needs an 11th place in the last round in Canzo (Italy), to be the new Champion.

After the podium, in the interviews, Manzano did not hide his satisfaction. This year he has obtained clearly the Junior World title, has the European Championship within reach, is just 2 points under the leader in the French Championship, and has obtained excellent results in the Senior World Championship, as in the USA, where he got the 6th place.
