Italy Grand Prix Manzi wins the Junior World Championship with a record of 10 consecutive victories Foppolo (Lombardy) An extraordinary record of 10 consecutive victories has led Josep Manzano to obtain the 2001 Trials Junior World Championship, when there are still 6 trials left, out of the 18 which compose the competition (two for each one of the 9 rounds). It was in the Italian Grand Prix, disputed on Saturday, the 30th of June, and on Sunday, the 1st of July, in Foppolo (Lombardy), with the attendance of more than 10.000 spectators. A very difficult Grand Prix, with some sections that no rider managed to clean, and that the rain and night hail made even more complicated. And it was precisely this risk that gave us a fright at the end of the round, the last obstacle of the last section of the last lap, Manzano fell down spectacularly, losing consciousness momentarily. He had to be transported in helicopter to the hospital, where he was not appreciated any problem. The incident prevented Josep from attending the podium celebrations (the photo belongs to first day). Manzano has showed throughout the championship an increasing superiority in the standings such as that of the last day of the USA Grand Prix, where he was penalized only 6 points, compared to 45 of the rider in the second place. The same progression has been demonstrated in Senior category in the same USA Grand Prix, where he’s reached a 6th place, ahead of riders such as Marc Colomer, Graham Jarvis, Marcel Justribó, David Cobos, etc. |
